Have you ever dreamed of finding the ideal place for your family vacation? There are several reasons why Gran Canaria should be visited at least once in your life. First of many reasons is the phenomenal climate throughout the whole year. Second, there are so many beautiful sights and natural miracles to see. Oh, we almost forgot to mention that people are amicable. But the most important thing about Gran Canaria is the peace that you can get for your family. We made a list of things that are worth visiting while staying in Gran Canaria. We hope you will enjoy all the places as much as we did during our honeymoon in 2013.
THE ANFI HEART-SHAPED ISLAND & ANFI COMPLEX: First of all, we do recommend the Anfi heart-shaped island for your wedding or honeymoon! The Anfi heart-shaped island was designed and built by Norwegian entrepreneur Bjorn Lyng for his wedding to his fifth wife. It features the famous Anfi beach with deep water and a beautiful ferry dock. The heart-shaped island is one of the magical sceneries of the municipality of Mogán, south of the island of Gran Canaria. The touristic town of Mogán rests between Arguineguín and Puerto Rico. Today, the heart-shaped island belongs to the Anfi tourist complex and has hosted hundreds of international weddings.
PUERTO RICO & MINI GOLF
PUERTO DE MORGÀN: Puerto de Mogán is a picturesque fishing resort on the south-west coast of the island of Gran Canaria. It also has a beautiful beach. Its beautiful canals have earned Puerto de Mogán the name "Little Venice" or the "Venice of the Canaries." At the beachfront, you will find exciting restaurants and bars. Puerto de Mogàn hosts a famous market on Fridays during the holiday seasons. We enjoyed a smooth boat ride from another resort Puerto Rico to visit the Puerto de Mogàn Market.
PLAYA DES INGLÉS: The longest and most famous beach of the island of Gran Canaria is called Playa des Inglés and is unique in that it resembles the American beaches where people are running, enjoying long walks and undertaking various sports such as volleyball and soccer. Sounds ideal for spending time with your children right? The beauty of this beach lies in the fact that it is a reasonably long sandy beach that is close to a variety of food restaurants from all over the world, ranging from Chinese food to fast food. Playa des Inglés is also packed with British pubs. Numerous tourists wanting adrenaline sports will also be pleased with the surfing possibilities or the jet-ski equipment on the beach.
PALMITOS PARK & AQUALAND MASPALOMAS: If you are a fan of botanical gardens, zoo gardens and especially dolphins, Palmitos Park is one of the most important destinations for you! This diversified park captures the attention of many tourists precisely because of the exciting performances in which the main actors are no less or less than - dolphins. This place is also ideal for finding peace and enjoying the beautiful flora of the Canary Islands. For all those who want adrenaline and descents on water slides, there is also a water park where you can safely enjoy! The Aqualand in Maspalomas is arguably one of the best and most prominent water parks in Europe! Great place with lots of families spending the whole day in the sun and enjoying phenomenal slides and all sorts of adrenaline rides. We would definitely recommend it to anybody who wants to see their children laughing all the time!
MASPALOMAS SAND DUNES: One of the fascinating natural beauties of the Canary Islands are the sand dunes in the very south of the island. Many tourists are unaware of the fact that the Canary Islands have their own desert near the Atlantic Ocean, and when they see the sand dunes, they often watch a beautiful scene in disbelief. Tourists have the opportunity to ride camels on massive sand dunes. Besides, do bring some sand with you as you will never find any original and beautiful souvenir anywhere!
BOAT TRIP TO OTHER ISLANDS: You might want to enjoy a lovely boat trip to other beautiful islands such as Tenerife. We do recommend a boat ride to the touristic resort of Puerto de Mogàn. The town small fishing town is stunning. The boat sails close to the shores so that one can enjoy beautiful views of hills, resorts, coastline, and other activities. Also, book a boat tour to see "Dolphins and Wales," but you might not want to do this with kids.
JEEP SAFARI TOUR: One of the most exciting things we did in Gran Canaria was the Jeep Safari and Camel ride. The Jeep Safari ride takes you to the highest point of the island! Gran Canaria is blessed with some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the Canary Islands. The Jeep Safari trip is full of adventure and discovery while maneuvering through spectacular landscapes, impressive views of the Grand Canyon of Gran Canaria and the Arguineguín Ravine.
OTHER THINGS TO DO
MASPALOMAS LIGHTHOUSE: The Maspalomas Lighthouse is a magnificent 19th-century lighthouse with a fantastic height of almost 60 meters. It is one of the main attractions of the Canary Islands that is definitely worth visiting, not only because of the lighthouse but also the romantic and cozy atmosphere created by many renowned restaurants as well as beautiful parks and the beautiful palm surrounding them.
ROQUE NUBLO: This huge volcanic rock is just part of a unique environment that adorns the central part of the island of Gran Canaria. Situated at a spirited 1800 meters, Roque Nublo offers breath-taking views and is definitely the number one attraction of the Islands. In addition to the beautiful view of Tenerife, one of the special treats of this attraction is the local residents who offer a variety of homemade products and souvenirs.
VALERON CAVES: The valley cave Valeron is a huge building consisting of almost 300 caves. In the past, they represented the ideal protection for their inhabitants due to their relative inaccessibility, optimal temperature and the ability to cross from one cave to another. The whole complex is under the surveillance and protection of the Spanish Government because it is symbolic of Spanish history and culture.
MOROCCAN CUISINE: We have to emphasize the influence of Moroccan cuisine on Gran Canaria. The power and uniqueness of Moroccan cuisine took our breath away the very first moment we had the first bite of the meal. It's something we would recommend to anybody who visits the Canary Islands. Seafood also turned out to be a unique choice.
